Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah is a pioneering Malaysian breast and endocrine surgeon and former Director-General of Health (2013–2023), renowned for leading Malaysia's COVID-19 response and advancing global health equity. He earned his medical degree (1988) and Master of Surgery (1994) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), followed by fellowships in Australia. As Head of Breast and Endocrine Surgery at Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Hospitals, he pioneered techniques like acupuncture-assisted thyroidectomy and contributed to endocrine institutes and publications. His tenure as Health DG included Hepatitis C elimination via compulsory licensing and Ravidasvir trials, plus global surgery initiatives reducing cataract surgery complications. Post-retirement, he chairs the National Heart Institute, UCSI Healthcare Group, and serves as WHO SCHEPPR chair. Honoured as Tan Sri (PSM, 2020), with RCSEd Fellowship Ad Hominem (2018) and global accolades, his expertise continues to shape healthcare leadership.
