Prof. Michael Tong is currently a Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, and serves as the Director of the Institute of Human Communicative Research at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He held the position of Chief and Chairman of the ENT department at the same institution from 2004 to 2023. As a distinguished skull base surgeon and otologist, he has over 300 peer-reviewed publications on general otology, cochlear implantation, auditory brainstem implantation, and nasopharyngeal cancer research. Developing technical innovations for minimally invasive surgery in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery is also his interest. Professor Tong has been visiting globally as an educator for 30 years, sharing his clinical and surgical experience in hearing implants, endoscopic ear surgery, and related fields of the specialty. Prof. Tong served as the President of the World Rhinology Congress held in Hong Kong in 2017 and has also been the President of the Hong Kong Society of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. He is the founder and Chairman of both the Asia Pacific Otorhinolaryngological Training (APOST) and the Hear Talk Foundation. Furthermore, he is the Vice President of the World Chinese Academy of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.
